Today was my first granddaughters 1st Birthday. I made an aqua chevron quilt to fit her first single bed. I really enjoy sewing and this was my fourth quilt I have ever made. Is very easy to do just choosing the material is the difficult part. These are the colours I used.
The quilt pattern I used was from 'Scatteredthoughtsofacraftymom'. Click here to see how to make it with very easy instructions. Instead of 10 inch squares though, I cut 10.5 inch squares and made it 5 x 5 chevron squares across and down to make it a big bigger. The backing was 100% Organic Cotton, which was very expensive. This is the backing and the binding material below.
I choose a dark navy blue for the binding to go with the backing, as there was navy triangles and to contrast with the quilt. Make sure the colour fabric you choose for the binding, matches the front as well.
Here I attached the backing to the front with 100% cotton batting in-between. Then trimmed the backing off and Stitching in the ditch giving the chevron pattern on the backing.
All finished ready to sew the binding on. Sewing the binding onto the front of the quilt and then turning over to hand sew on the back. I cut the binding 2.5 inches wide.
I also made these cot quilts for Beth my Grandbaby when she was born a year ago. I hand sewed around each elephant and made a cot bummer to go with the quilt.
This one is a rag quilt for the pram its so soft and fluffy. I had fun making this. The backing is a pink minky fleece.
